complete master's or doctoral degree program
The master's or doctoral degree program has to be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy or by a professional accrediting body. It must be approved by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation of the American Council on Education and complete the specific coursework.
supervised work experience
You will need to earn 4,000 hours of supervised work experience in a period of 2 years.

Send a Utah Marriage and Family Therapist licensure application to the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing.
Wait and study
The Division will review your application and you will be notified of your eligibility to register for the national Marital and Family Therapist Examination once you have been approved. The exam will determine if the applicants have attained the knowledge considered essential for entry-level professional practice.
